I sent my Nakamichi HU (for repairs) which has not come back yet, but meanwhile I have a question on SQ. If you have subwoofer outputs on the HU, is the subwoofer sound going to be better in quality when you connect this from the HU to the subwoofer amp or will the sound be better if you connect the Line Outs from the main amp to the subwoofer amp's input? The reason why I ask this is because the length of the cable from the HU to the back of the car would be about 10 -15 feet long, whereas the cable from amp to sub-amp would be only a foot or 2 in length, thereby reducing the chances of degrading sound quality. I have very high quality RCA cables (paid about $45 for each) but still have this doubt. Another point is that the sub-amp already has filters that would filter out the high-frequency and only lett the right frequency to pass through depending on the cross over setting, right?

I am going to try and see it tonight or tomorrow with my previous HU which also has subwoofer outputs, but would like to know if anyone has done this and can say that it is better to connect amp to sub-amp or HU to sub-amp. Thanks again as always.

Mark

For me I would try it both ways, mind you sq out of a sub will probably be more dependant on the enclousre the sub is in and where it is mounted + the crossover frequency chosen. If the head unit has a level control on the preout that is another thing to consider, that for me it would be way more valuable to be hooked to the cd player in this case rather than any perceived difference in sq by going any other way.

As far as the crossovers go, if the headunit has one built in or not, it would depend on the slope. Same goes for the amp. I would again experiment with both to see what results can be had.

sq will 90% of the time be "better" out of the sub-out off the deck... ie ... higher voltage

i would recommend running from the deck. or from a crossover, if you are really looking for sq look into a 30 band or so eq for your trunk,   run one nice set of rca's and then devide to the amps from there
