Anyone know if there is a way to modify an M-Bus cable for older (non-Versatile Link) Alpine decks to trick the unit into thinking a changer is connected so you could access the input?

The original author wrote the question on my behalf. I have a CDM-7854 and would like to hook up XM-radio (or MP3, ect.) to the deck without using an FM modulator. It's an Mbus deck, but non-Versatile Link from what I can tell. It does not have an AUX input, but does have changer controls. My hope was that I could fool the deck to think there was a CD changer present so I could use the m-bus to run in the XM radio. Any thoughts? Thanks!

There is an rca input adaptor for that deck. You can search for the m-bus to rca adaptor, , , or the m-bus to ai-net, then ai-net to rca adaptors. I don't have access to the part numbers to help you right now, , were moveing so i can't find any price sheets just yet. But expect to pay $10-$20.

Thanks for the info, I did find a few part numbers. the KCM-123b (RCA) and KCM-122b (mini) that are for this purpose. I did find a few notes that said the adapter may not work in some of the "older" M-BUS decks, and that was my concern. No more detail was given than that, but I presumed they were talking about decks which did not advertise "Versatile Link", which the 7854 did not. Well, it's only $15 to give it a try. Alpine_Guy, so you believe one of the above adapters should allow me to connect XM (or any other low-level source) to the CDM-7854? 12_volt_guy, do you have one these in stock? Thanks guys! -C
