Here we go again. The enclosure is the most important factor in sq and spl. I hate brand recommendations.

No sh*t, I was thinking the same thing.  Don’t we go through this twice a week?

Your asking for recommendations for subwoofers that cost 600 + ?   From people you don’t know?  Ok I'll give you my opinion: JL 12w7.  Now, get ready to drop a grand on a quality amp to go with it.  Then again if I had that kind of money to spend on a car audio system I would want to do several evaluations myself.

And when you decide, after spending 1700 on that w7 and JL 1/1000 (or whatever you choose) make sure you don’t use plywood that has been sitting around your backyard for 3 years, make the box to fit the car and not the box to fit the subwoofer, skip out on the glue cause it makes a mess, use 3/4" screws to secure the 5/8 plywood, drill a hole in the back to get the 18 gauge wire in, use a old Pringles can to make a port (cause ported is louder!), use tape to stop air leaks.....   I'm saying that no matter how much you spend on a subwoofer, it will not sound any better then a walmart Roadmaster without a solid, well built and conceived enclosure.

Here is a page were you can find professional reviews: https://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/ .  There are many good subwoofers out there and I could hardly give you five without leaving out five other great speakers.  So, my five will not be the same as someone else’s, but that does not make their list invalid or incomplete.

you'll find answers faster if you use the posted_image button. or even check the last 2-3 pages on this forum, and you'll find enough quality recommendations.

btw, why would you want to know both worlds? do you plan on merging a setup for both SPL and SQ? it wont work unless you seriously emphasis one over the other.

and as auex said, enclosure is just as, if not more, important than the name and size of a sub.

That question is a loaded as asking which is better Ford or Chevy.Everyone has an opinion based on what he/she owns or sells.Hardly anyone would "fess up"that they own a crappy woofer.

Pyramid all the way.  And if you can't afford it, go for Audiovox.  Or Road King.

DYohn - What about the Duals? They light up already! That has to count for something...

Saying you have a crappy Chevy is like sayin 170 db isn't loud.  Both are BS.  Anyways, yeah this forum is full of opinions.  Just check some of the other's out.  heavilymedicate you wouldn't want the 13w7?  I'll give you .10 and say that w/ a JL 1000/1 or other highquality proven amp.  One word  DOMINATION.

I don’t understand that bud, the .10 part in particular.  Yeah id want a 13w7, but they want 200$ more for one of those then a 12w7 around here.  I cannot imagine that the 13 is much louder then the 12, so id choose the 12.  But if i had that kind of cash lying around to spend on a sub i would probably not care about the extra 30% for the 13.

Like everyone is saying here we go again. There's always a question that is brought up about which competitive subwoofers / speakers will produce the best  Sound Quality, Sound Pressure Level.  We cannot provide any right answers for you in this questions, but we can help you decide which brand / enclosure to choose from if you can just, just provide a specific one that you are seeking.

I think we need a recommendation post guideline sticky.  Something like:

1)   Post your price range
2)   Post your system goals
3)   Post what you will be powering it with or what you will be powering
4)   Post installation location for mids / highs
5)   Post your musical tastes
6)   Pick a few items you were debating between or considering

In other words, don't ask generic questions like, "which one is better."  Help us help you and give us some guidelines to operate in.

well put kfr, i had attempted a post @ lunch which basically exampled what you posted, for him to help us more, fortunately (cus your post sounds better than mine did) the forum had me logged off, minutes after i posted a previous message in a thread.

i agree a sticky would be great

heavilymedicate  Yeah the 13w7 is WAY WAY WAY louder than the 12w7.  Heard both and a sub that handles 250 watts more power will sound louder.  It also sounds just as good if not beter.  I'll give you 10 cent and say that that sub w/ that amp or another comparable one will dominate many peoples systems.  i think you'll agree right?   posted_image

Stickies suck.  Then they disappear.  How 'bout Forum Rules and Guidelines, already found stickied and locked at the top of the page?  With items like:

Be Descriptive and Specific Use a descriptive topic subject and be as specific as possible in your message. Providing more information makes it easier to help you. This will also make searching for similar topics and problems quicker and easier for all members. Try to include year, make and model of vehicle, any relevant model numbers, and the nature of your problem or project in detail.

Other than that, if the thread starter is an actual participant...the info relevant to the case will be revealed.  I just quit on them if they're not listening.

I hear ya Boxmaker.

Ok, um... I wish people would use the search button.  I wish they would read the forum rules.  But I cant think of anything any of us can do  to make people use common sense when using a forum.  I can tell you that the search button works as I have used it several times to solve problems.  That’s the benefit of a very deep forum database with years of how to's and what’s wrong questions.

This is a great site.
