Ignition wire on Head Unit not working

Hi
Im putting in a Boss Ba-1000 AMP into a crappy head unit, with a jensen 10" sub.
I hook it up, and the head unit starts smoking immediately.
Check:
AMP Power fuse 60A near +ve battery terminal- OK
AMP - Power - OK
AMP - Earth Connections - OK
Ignition inline head unit fuse 8A - OK
Constant Battery inline head unit fuse 8A - OK
Cigar lighter fuse 10A in fuse box - BROKEN
Room lighter fuse 10A in fuse box - BROKEN
Constant memory wire going to batter - OK
I replace the two 10A fuses in the fuse box, turn on the head unit and it cuts out immediately.
The two 10A fuses in the fuse box are blown and NOW the ignition wire to the head unit does not have any power, even though its corresponding 8A inline fuse is still OK.
Please help, I have no idea whats wrong with it.

Sounds like you have a short some were. Check your wires and make sure non of them are shorting to ground. Dutch ------------- First Class M.E.C.P. Certified & 310K Licensed

The first time you have smoke and blown fuses, you check all the wiring with a meter. Or you disconnect power sources and hightail it to a good shop for testing. Replacing fuses just to see if it will happen again often leads to more problems. You do have a short in the wiring that the car also uses for other purposes, in the area of the head unit. Pull it out, and since it let out the smoke, it may likely be fried. And there is some wiring in the car that will have to be replaced.

My first question would be how you got that amp inside your head unit? :) But seriously, if the cigarette lighter fuse was blown, I'd start looking there. I have often found coins inside people's cigarette lighters shorting out things. -------------
