well i'm getting 2 new amps, since my other 2 got stolen how long ago. its either planet audio VX900D and VX3004      OR       MA audio HK1997 and HK597, i'm on a budget and well, i cant afford much. i already have 4awg wireing for power and grnd. but IF i switched to the MA audio amps, (1200W and 800w) what source of power will i need, i already have a stock alt. and battery in there, will i need 1awg wiring? a cap? bigger alt and better battery? and also i would like to know that rule of thumb of how much amperage you draw out from your alt. for your stereo (i think its something like adding the power of your two amps and then dividing it buy something else, not quite sure). THANX IN ADVANCE everyone!

A lot of the info youare looking for is on the left side of this page, mostly under the car audio section. Click on "Power and Ground" first, most of your ingo will be there.

Well, with what you had before did everything run well with the car's electrical system?  Just compare the total rating of the fuses between old and new.  That would indicate maximum possible current draw.  For wiring, use the guide in the section you were referred to.  For alt and battery, and wiring under the hood...just wait and see what happens when you get the new amps up and running.  At least, that's what I'd do.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

yaw my old system was fine. there was no cap either, just stock battery and alt. and i was running a good 800watts in total power. but there was a faint faint dimming in the roof light when it was on. but no biggey
