Pioneer 4x6'' TS-P462, any good?

I just saw some for sale at a local retailer. They are component plates if that's the correct term. One round speaker with a tweeter in a 4x6" plate.

Before I even consider these, I'd like to know first hand how do they sound?

I'm sure there are better speakers, but the price is right $129. I want to use these specifically for the doors in a '99 cavalier.

I have some Polk EX 5.25" coaxials, but they definitly aren't a direct fit. I've considered making them fit with some homemade brakets, but that's a tight fit with the window and door panel in there. OEM size is quick and easy.

The car has an Alpine HU and may get a 4 channel amp later on. The car currently has stock 6" speakers from a ford probe in the back. They sound much better than the GM 10 ohm speakers, considering these are 4 ohm...and they both work, a step up from before! It's cheezy, but at least I made nice MDF plates to mount another round speaker there in the future. Considering what was in there before (stock delco) it's coming around!

I'm not expecting rave reviews, but as long as they don't totally suck, they should work fine for my sister.

She's most definitly adding an amp because she's seen my other cars and knows what a stereo should sound like. It's not even about having it loud, just having the music take over the car.

Any opinions on the JL Audio 6450 6 channel amp? This seems like a good fit for a car with front and rear speakers with subs. This amp sells for $400 tax free down the street, it seems like a reasonable price for this amp. It's a class AB, I forget the power rating but it is plenty for what it would be used for.

First things first though....security system!

I replaced the door speakers in a 2000 cavalier with some Infinity Kappa 4x6' plates a few years ago.  They were ran off the deck (pioneer mosfet50) and crossed over @ 120 I think.  They sound ok, but it is a poor location for getting those highs to your ears.  Your legs are always in the way and there is nothing you can do about that.  A week later the guy bought some 7/8" Pioneer hard dome tweets.  He insisted that no modification be made to the car (no cutting).  So, I installed them on the dash and pushed back against the windshield in each corner.

That was a bigger improvement then the Kappa's in the stock locations.  I guess my point is that if you are going to replace those stock speakers i would look into getting a set of tweets to give you better highs, and imaging.  I have since heard several cavaliers with the stock speakers replaced and consider the setup i am suggesting superior to just the stock speakers alone.  Maybe a 4" component set?  You could put the 4" down low and the tweet on the door? or wherever.

I am familiar with those pioneers and they sound good, 130 dollars good?  I would look around for that type of money and get a cheap component set.  My opinion : )

I love helping friends and family, but it always seems like everyone ends up with a better system than me. Maybee I'm just cheap and I'm saving up for a 4x4....so no toys for me.

I told her to get kick panels and she wasn't interested. I was just trying to find and excuse not to undo the rear deck and door panels, yet play with some fiberglass. I would most definitly relocate the tweeters.
