I was wondering if you can graciously help me out with the speaker wires colors on a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII with Premium Sound. I looked for some info on this site and other sites prior to this post, but it had all the information except what I was looking for. I'm about to install a radio in the car, but the past owner totally butchered the factory wiring. I figured out all the wiring except the Speakers. I could figure it out by taking the door panels off and other various interior components, but thought I'd ask politely first. Would anyone know off the top of there head or have a link that can tell me which wires are the + and the - for each speaker ?
These are the color of the wires I'm looking at now,
White with Red Tracer
White with Orange Tracer
Purple with White Tracer
Light Blue with Black Tracer
Brown
Light Blue
Green
Yellow

In a situation like you have, where you know that the original wiring has been replaced in places by a previous owner, you should just run new wiring from the deck to the speakers. If you want to try to find any of the wiring in place now, and where those wires go, you can use the simple 9 volt or 1.5 volt battery test. Grab two adjacent wires, attach one to + and the other to - on the battery, and listen to the sound of a crackle coming from one of the speakers. Isolate those two wires and label them. After you get them all, then you need to check polarity...one wire is pos and the other is neg. A speaker will move toward you if they are hooked up correctly, away from you if they are reversed. So all the speakers have to be visible.
Also, keep in mind that the colors of wiring at the speaker locations often don't match the colors at the deck harness, even with a new car that hasn't been tampered with.

U cannot use the battery test if U still have the Factory AMP hooked up.
There is a BY-Pass harness for the AMP if the plugs are still there. Personally I would go to wrecking yard and get the square DIN plug U need and return back to original, then put in Aftermarket adapter plugs in with whatever radio U choose.
