Pioneer AVIC-N1

Does anyone have any real life experience with this unit? I have an opertunity to pick one up for what I consider a good price and just wondering if its really worth it. I also have a limited time to make my decision, and have some older eclipse equipment that has to go to make way for the AVIC-N1 (2301 DSP processor and 5443 headunit if anyone's interested).

Hows Picture quality, sound quality, any built in EQ aside from the generic EQ most Pioneers have, does Pioneer have any EQ or 5.1 add on units or does the AVIC have everything you need built in?

I quickly scanned though Pioners web site as well as www.avicn1.com, but just want somone whos well experienced with it to possibly give me the low down.

I have installed quite a few of these and I like em for what you get for the money.  Picture quality and sound quality are both good.  There is quite a bit of adjustment, as far as built in xovers and such.  Pioneer has an add on piece for 5.1, you can also add XM.  The only negative I could point out is that you have to have the map CD in for real time tracking/maping, or making any changes to your route.  So the only way you can use the Nav and the DVD at the same time is if you put the map CD in, load your route, and then take the nav CD out and load your DVD.  I would suggest adding a CD Changer to this unit to avoid this.  good luck

Im in the same shoes as slammed am. i have the opportunity to get this unit at a real good price, but only for a short time. but, i dont know if it has clearence room to open the monitor, when the monitor is open, i am afraid the back of the monitor will hit the overhang that is located over my radio location. and it sticks out about 2 inches.

You MAY be able to fit the AVIC-N1 in that dash if you surface mount it.  If you flush mount it in that kit you have there now, it will not have enough clearance.  The Face of the radio's trim ring must be at least even with the farthest overhang above it or it will not open correctly.  That dash does look very workable though, soemthing could be fabricated fairly easy to make that unit work for you.

The Pioneer monitor has the option of moving out about 1/2 - 3/4" from the open position. This may or may not be enough to clear the upper lip of the trim, but if worse comes to worse, you'll have to build out the upper portion of the trim that you have and flush mount the deck in.

thanks for the input galpin audio, i do have access to some spacers from other kits, i might just throw one of them in there..

now Velocity Motors...is the slide feature similar to the alpine? i know the cva1004 had a slide button, it would move .5-.75"

Yes, this is the same feature that the Alpine has. Not sure if the Pioneer has a better range for the forward motion of the monitor than the Alpine, just have to go to a Best Buy or eletronics store and see if they have one on display.
