is there something in an amp that can burn out that would cause an amp to be putting out a very low amount of power vs. its normal power?

In past experience, once an amp shorts something on the board, the output is 0. Was the amp moved or the ground wire may have some corrosion on it ?

yes i replace a sony "800w" amp with a rockford power 1000a2 and the speakers where then not as loud.. nothing else was changed......

To be clear, was the system working OK one minute than "got quieter" the next? Or did you change amps and that caused the change? If the former, you have a defective amp (power supply or output feedback regulation circuit is a guess.) If the later, you need to setup the input gain on the new amp properly, you have a defect in the speakers or wiring, the new amp is bad, or you are simply noticing the different output of a different amp. ------------- Support the12volt.com

the problem occured as soon as the new amp was installed...the gains were not the problem as it still occured weather gains were all the way down, all the way up or somewhere in between. speaker and wiring should not be the issue because worked properly with original amp and i checked wiring after new amp was in also....is there repair shops in the montgomery county, maryland area that are rockford certified that i can have it repair at and possibly tweaked at? ------------- Quad L Handyman services

Well, there may or may not be a problem since this is a new amp, but it could certainly be an out-of-the-box defect. I suggest getting the amp checked out. Take it back where you bought it and make sure it is OK. ------------- Support the12volt.com

........i'd love to take it back and have it returned or exchanged. it was a small present from my mother for my 17th. bought from the "Wonderful" EBay....so if you had any off hand repair shops in my area that would be greatly appreciated TIA

Sounds like yet another victim of the "i wanna save a few bucks on ebay" syndrome. In my experience, you'll get a few good deals out of ebay if your lucky, then get shafted. Making up all the money you saved on the last few purchases with that piece of crap that just arrived Fed-Ex to your door. Oh, and you don’t have a warranty on that other stuff you bought either! Hope nothing goes wrong. Go to the Rockford website and look up local repair centers. Chances are its not worth repairing.
