Hey I'm just kickin around an idea and was wonderin if it would be a good idea or just plain stupidity. I have a 15" Rockford HX2 in a 3ft ported box. To that I have going a 1000w @ 2ohm Rockford mono amp. In the ported box I am getting a little distortion with the sub. I was told on an earlier post that that was alot of power going to a ported 15" even though it's rated at 1200w peak, so I should turn down the gain. So my question is; I have 2 polk 10"s and was thinking about running those along with the 15". But I would rather not have to spend too much money doing so. And don't want to have to worry bout too much draw on the car if I were to run 3 amps. I would like to run all 3 subs off of the one amp that I have. But... since it's a mono amp I am worried of underpowering my 15". I have the gain at about half at the moment so I really wouldn't be losing too much if I were to split the power in half and turn up the gain right? Also how would be the best way to run these if I were to do so? Or is it even possible? I am not going to compete I just want a good clean low with a little thump from the 10's. Suggestions? Or if you just want to call me stupid that's ok too. :D Thanks guys. Tom ------------- My nose smells funny... Is that possible?

be carefull how you wire those up if you decide to do so. You might overload the amp by putting too much resistance on it and dropping the ohms too low. You could probly hook them up in Paralell but Im not so sure your sound quality will be all that great with x-over issues and such. your distortion issue could just be the box design maybe or port location.

Ok. I'm not an installer and have little knowledge on how these things work. I'm trying to expand my knowledge though. So sorry for my ignorance. Maybe a little expalining would help me a bit. So running it to 3 subs is going to put more resistance on the amp?

ok trcoffelt , Im not an installer either but have been at the game for about 17 years. Anyway , yes , the more speakers you hook up to an amp , the more resistance it puts to the output of the amp putting more of a strain on it. Sometimes a little strain is good to increase the amps output but each one has its limits usually determined by how many ohms of resistance the amp is designed for. The better high quality amps or Mono Amps are designed to handle lower oms loads. Im sure your amp can handle 3 subs but there are different ways to wire them to the amp like in series or in paralell. I forget which was is which. Theres an installer yelling at me right now but check with someone before you do to wire them best to the amp. You will also probly have sound issues since your putting 2 -10s and one 15 on the same frequency. They are not all designed to play the same but who knows , its worth a try.

Yeah I haddn't thought of that. I'll let the post hang and see what happens. Thanks for the info Rush I appreciate it. I do know that paralell is when you run the 2 +s together to the + on the amp and the 2 -s together then to the amps -.

Don't run the 15 w/ the two tens. It will be like putting audiobahans in the trunk (lol, not that funny but i had to ). Yeah Rushman said it. Sound frequencies are different for the two sizes of subs. It's like drugs... just say no.

Sumone give him the how to set up your gain speach too! He's using it as a volume knob. Im too tired to explain it.

well the only thing Ive ever been told about gains is either turn them all the way up and then back them off about a quarter turn or turn them down untill you remove any unwanted noises or achieve the sound level you want from the speakers they control. Im sure someone out there can give a more scientific explenation.

trcoffelt - check this link out, it'll explain howto set your gain very clearly, and efficiently, it may cost an extra 40$ for a multimeter, but it will save you from guessing if your setting the gain too high
https://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/index.html
and look for the interactive gain setting tutorial, its a good watch.
that should solve one issue, for the other issue, i would not hook those 10's up. either save for a amp for those 2 or put them back in the closet ;/
