I have a 89 corolla. It came with an amp under the seat that powers the rear speakers, which really sound crappy. I bought one 10" sub and a 430w amp today. Do I need 2 amps? I was thinking of just unhooking the amp that is currently in there since it does not really help the rear speakers. That way I could put the new amp under the seat and use the wires that are already there. Also, I'm new to this obviously, on the amp, it says "remote." What does that mean?

You really do not need 2 amps pushing 1 sub, is the 430w RMS or peak? remote is what tells the amp to turn on, the little blue wire that rins from your head unit.. .
What is the wattage on your subwoofer RMS/Peak?
your best bet is to check the amp under your seats to see if the power can be adjusted, if so that might make your speakers sound better.
My overall suggestion: Run both amps, keep the one powering your highs, and the other to the sub

Does your new amp have a manual with it? If not, what is the make and model and maybe one will pop up online. REM is remote on, connects to deck remote to switch the amp on when the deck is on.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
