I connected an external amp and two 10" subs using the wires from the disconnected factory sub. I connected the wires to the high level inputs of the external amp and everything was fine. It's been working perfectly for 3 months but now I'm getting no power to the rear door speakers or the high level inputs....the front speakers were fine. I believe the factory amp is fried. Is that an accurate assumption? In addition to that I think the factory amplifier is draining the battery. I disconnected one of the plugs to the factory amp to keep it from draining the battery. With the uppermost plug disconnected from the factory amp the radio comes on but no sound. 1. What could have caused the rear speakers to stop functioning and what could have cause the factory amp to behave in such a manner? Stating the obvious: I'm sure they're both related. 2. Would you recommend replacing the factory amp or bypassing the factory amp all together? I may get an aftermarket stereo anyway so instructions on how to bypass the factory amp would be greatly appreciated none the less.

time to play destructo with your new vehicle...if it had a factory amp your best way to re wire is to 1 replace the deck and run the wires from the deck to the wires on the out side of your amp to each speaker.....or to replace the factory amp with a aftermarket one but getting a signal from the stock head unti could be tricky

That's what I'd like to do. I don't know any of the wiring schematics coming from or going into the factory amp. I already have an aftermarket amp and speakers. I'll get the radio later.

I dont have one off hand if you can get to the amp using the output's u can use a 9 volt battery to iddentify each of the speakers from there. as far as finding the input, you could use a cheap speaker and play with the wires. or ask in a new post if anyone has a diagram that would probably be best

Input is on the front facing plug, output is on the rear facing plug, if I remember correctly. Now. If memory serves..... the amp lives under the centre console in those things. The sub amp hides out in the driver's side rear quarter panel somewhere. They are separately fused. I have a diagram somewhere in my toolbox at work that I managed to wrangle out if GM one day. On the input side, regular GM speaker wiring colors for non-Bose (blue pair, yel/brn, green pair, grey/beige). Output side are all twisted pairs corresponding to individual speakers.
Don't those things have a whack load of speakers in 'em? Like 9 or something (haven't had a non-Bose GM Sport Futility ripped apart in awhile). Anywhays... go after the amps first to determine what is powering which. Then, providing things aren't actively crossed and the impedances are cool for a deck to drive directly, or an aftermarket amp to power up, start figureing out a relative plan of attack.
