I just bought a 2004 Chevy Colorado and it already has XM radio. I want to buy an Alpine head unit with a generic XM Rx and use the same antennae that came on the vehicle. I don't know a lot about XM but it is my understanding that there are two different flavor antennae. I think I read that one has two conductors and the other has three. Has anyone wired an aftermarket XM unit to a factory antennae (particularly gm)? Is there an adaptor that I will need or any tricks I need to know?
Thanks for helping a noob out

not sure if it works. but i've looked at a gm ant and it looks like it will work on the main plug of the old pioneer tuners. not sure though. also length is an issue however.

Hmm. Are you talking about the plug for the XM ant? I guess I wasn't really specific. I have an adaptor for a the regular antenna. I am trying to find out if I can use the XM antenna that came on the truck.
Thanks

from what iv'e gathered in the past, you can't use the antenna. ive been told it wont match. you'll want to use xmdirect and this adapter for alpines: Alpine
ALPXMD100
Coming in Oct '04.
$49.99. i'm sure youll have to use the antenna that comes with it.

You CANNOT use the factory XM with an aftermarket H/U. The antenna and tuner is programmed to work with that factory radio only. If you want satellite radio with that alpine you need to buy a new antenna and reciever. On that note i recommend going to Sirius. In a few months you will only see new XM products for GM and universal applications. Pioneer, Alpine and all other aftermarket manufacturers are going to be Sirius satellite ready. XM is old news, get ready for the Sirius explotion!!!!

Alright, guess I've got some thinking to do. Thanks for the help.
