I need to power up my headunit in my car to compare the backlight of the HU to the rest of my interior. Anybody know if I can use some small portable battery, like a lantern battery or something to power up the power and accessory wires just to turn it on? It doesn't have to do anything and it only has to be on for a few minutes. I haven't torn my car apart yet to get to a power cable, and don't really want to until I am doing the entire install.

when I am testing equipment on the fly, I use a cordless srewdriver battery it is 16 volt but never had a problem, be sure to use a ditigal mulit meter to identify pos and neg terminals or else you will fry it. you could also run temp wire's stight from your battery, be sure to fuse just in case

Good idea, didn't even think about a cordless screwdriver battery. Maybe one of the 14v batteries to get it running just real quick. I could run temp wires to my battery, but I don't have that much wire and its much easier to just use little strips of wire to a smaller battery for a few minutes.
