i bought a pair of mbquart 6.5 refs and i am not even coming close to being even with my sub. 12 inch aluminum dvc eclipse and am underpowering it with a 400rms monoblock. in a truck cab. the midranges dont distort at the level beyond where i stop, but the tweeters sound metallicy as hell no matter where i place them. tried putting it all in kick panels, didnt help the pain. i also stop at this point because the fuses in the crossovers come to a healthy glow. if i scratch up the cash and buy some pros would they make a huge difference(enough to have to rethink my sub setup) or should i start saving/selling and go with some boston pros. and the final thing, which i hope is not the case, should the refs be really loud sound really good and the speaks are just plain screwed up. oh, and i am powering them with a kenwood kac-7251(what i had laying around)

I have the pros and have listened to both .. how much power is that amplifier rated for?

I'd save for a new amp. got a good ol' kenmore myself. It sucks. Try a different amp. Probably give you a cleaner signal to the sub. Probably won't help w/ the component situation but... Also try amplifying the components w/ a small amp (40-50ish watts per channal).

If the tweeters are too bright, turn them down. The reference crossovers have a handy little jumper on each one to knock the top end down by up to 6db's. IF the crossovers are glowing constantly, then my friend you are at the point of clipping on the amp. The glowing lightbulbs are there to protect the tweeters from damage caused by clipping. Turn the gain down. No matter which way you go with the speakers, any type or any brand, they will not keep up with the big nasty outout of those Eclipse Aluminums posted_image

. You need more power captain, in the form of a larger amp to drive the front speakers. Play with those tweeter level settings and turn the gain down and see what happens.

forbidden is right.. put a nice clean amp on those guys and cross them over at 80hz or higher and you should be able to make them sing pretty damn loud.
