Hey everyone. I just decided I want to stick with Diamond Audio products all through my car. I currently have a D3 600.1 amplifier mated to a 15" D6MKII subwoofer in a ported box. I was looking at their interior speakers at the store and I came across a nice set. It had 2 tweeters, and 2 midbass speakers with 2 massive crossovers. I asked how much they cost, the guy said 500 bucks. Now, i've never used or bought a crossover before, but i dont think they are that expensive. It was like, the HEX series or something. The speakers alone were 125, but for the crossovers, the extra 375? Thats insane. Are they really that good? Also, I was going to use a Diamond Audio D3 400.4 amp to power those.

The Hex (and other series) components come with a passive crossover designed for them.  What additional Diamond crossover are you looking at?

no additional c/o. i made a mistake when i was lookin at them at the store. I'm sorry about that. I thought the speakers i was looking at were the same as the ones in the HEX set minus the crossover. They were the CM3 series speakers. However, i was talking about the c/o in the box with the Hex speakers.

Ah.  Yes, the CM3 (their top of the line) is about 3 to 4 times more expensive than the Hex (their bottom of the line components.)

I dunno if you were being sarcastic or not, but the CM3 is bottom of the line, and the Hex would be the top of the line.

alright. no problemmo. I just had to ask cuz i know you and Rob, tend to do that sometimes. Anyways. My question, are these things worth 500 bucks? Or would the CM3's do me fine. I want it loud as hell in my car, but clear as a bell. I wanna stay in the Diamond Family. Thanks.

Are they worth $500?  Well, I can't answer that for you.  The question is are they worth it to YOU?  Listen to them both side by side with the same program material and the same head/amp if possible, and buy what sounds best to you.  If you can't hear any difference, then save your money...

thats the thing, the store I go to doesnt have them set up. they dont have a sound room like most stores. It's either u know what u want, or u go by word of mouth.

See if they have a 30-day return policy.  Get the cheaper ones and try it.  If they won't perform the way you want, exchange and pay the higher price for the better ones.  If they are not any better, go back to the cheaper ones or try a different brand.  Be honest with the shop that this is what you plan to do.  It might convince them it is worth setting up a side-by-side comparison for you.

I have owned the CM3's then the Hex. I had them swapped out of my car in the same day so I heard the difference immediatly. By my experience running on a bridged Soundstream Reference 405 (25w x 4 = 50w x2) The difference was nothing short of remarkable. The hex are the best speakers I've personally heard. The bass is stupid, the treble is Zing if a little bright but you can adjust it on the crossover. By the way, my amp is OLDSKOOL and I know 50w on these speakers is LOW, but I'm guessing it is under rated badly as it has no trouble getting silly loud. Anyone actually know what an old Reference405 can do - it is a f*ing LARGE amp?

Go for the Hex.  I was very impressed with the quality of the Hex series.
