Dear all:
Performing my first ever install & upon removing the after market deck that I was replacing, I discovered the previous owner had cut the wiring harness off which is making my first install a little more difficult. I was hoping to get some basic instruction.
I have downloaded the wiring diagram for this car & I was hoping that all I need to do is to match up the OEM colored wire to the Standard color
Any advice would be greatly appreciated for this rookie
If you have the wiring diagram for that car that tells you what color is what , then you should be able to match the wires function accordingly. Or I think there are places you could buy the factory plug used or new and just splice it back again but just be carefull and take your time with that many splices behind the dash. Cant think of anywhere to get the factory plug except dealership but you know how expensive that might be.
I too have a 95 corolla that had a cut factory harness. If I were you I would go to a junk yard and find a corolla, you should be able to find at least one with the harness still in it, pull the harness out as far as you can, cut it out, buy it, then you can match the wires to yours.
You can connect it to your reciever without the factory harness but I wouldn't recommend it. Think about the future, you will thank yourself later if you get the factory harness. If you remove the dash it will make it much easier, and use (butt) connectors normally used to install cd players. Once you have matched up all the wires, get electrical tape and wrap the heck out of the bundled wires, you have to make it real tight, not just on the part that they join, but at least 6 inches back, just to keep it secure.
I know it sounds like a lot of work, but it is necessary if you want to have a reliable system, take your time and don't do a half a*sed job. If you have any questions or need some help, email me. And by the way, if you plan on putting subs in your trunk, you will notice that they sound much better in everybody elses car. The acoustics of the corollas trunk are horrible for BIG BASS. I just hope you have the fold down seats, it will help with the bass. And last but not least, mount your sub box facing the rear and push them as far towards the back of the vehicle as possible, you will hear the most bass this way, but experiment, maybe its just mine. Just a suggestion if you can you might want to take the time to solder those connections behind the dash and then wrap them with some Heat shrink tubing. It will last alot longer and make for better , more secure conections. And then if you want you can do like Chabo said and wrap it all up with electrical tape. Ive had way too many crimp style connections fail in the past and cause endless headaches. Just tryin to help out. Good Luck.

butt connectors normally used to connect cd players.....hmmmm I dont know how bad I want to be mean, Maybe when I was working in circuit city if we were to lazy to connect a speaker wire, but as far as a radio even then we would soilder everything and tape or shrinkwrap

Soldering would be better than using butt connectors, but this is Tim_m_yee's first install. I don't think he/she would have the experience to solder and I doubt he/she owns a heat gun for the tubing.
