I'm installing alpine in-dash monitor and a four-channel amp into a golf cart. I got a 18 volt source... Been searching for a voltage regulator cuz tech support says alpine will release smoke above 15 volts. Can't find voltage regulator anywhere. Maybe I'm searching in the wrong spot. Help me guys!

you should be able to find one... check with the power supply manufacturers like Tripp-Lite, Stabylex, Circuit Test, etc.....

you could build one but most regulators available locally tend to be fairly low current ( a couple of amps )

you may also want to look at the feasability of powering them off a 12 volt motorcycle battery, etc.

Or find an appropriate DC-DC converter... or build a simple voltage divider if you're not worried about how long the batteries will last.

Make it easy, man. Just goto www.digikey.com. Look for a voltage regulator, or a DC-DC Converter.

For my PS2 installs, I use an LM1084 which handles up to 5Amps. But your current draw is out of this league.

A converter is probably the best bet, still check digikey.

you could also look into a regulated cap.   normally not more then $150 but you can set the voltage on the cap,   This would also help from you killing your batter if you have a electric golf cart
