I have a RF P8002 and I noticed one day after pushing my sistem hard that the chrome piece was really hot. Does it serve as a heat sink or just cosmetics? Would it be alright if I took it off?
My 3 amps, 2nd battery, eq, and wiring are secured inside the wheel well. It's not completly air tight and the subs provide some flow when pushed hard. Do you think I need an auxilary fan. What are some factors to consiter when purchasing one? Which ones do you recommend?

The "chrome piece" is part of the amplifier's heat sinks. Do not take it off. Is your 2nd battery properly vented?
If you add a fan be sure to use a relay to switch power to it and be sure it is positioned away from signal leads so as not to induce noise.

If its the new model of RF amps it is simply cosmetic, if its the old style then its part of the heat sink.

i normally use computer power supply fans thier inexpensive and easy to use, you can run them off a swithed ig source or use a relay to use your remote power source

Yes, the p8002 is the new model. How do you know what size fan to get or do you just guess. How many cubic feet per minute? Are there computer fans that have alternating speeds varing with voltage?
My 2nd battery is a altima blue top battery which is sealed/spill proof. Do I really need ventelation for that? Does the battery really produce huge amounts of heat like the amplifiers?
