I'm getting 2 12" sounstream tarantula 1ohm DVC subs. I plan on running them off of the JBL 1200.1/1ohm stable amp. For some reason i can't find any diagrams showing how to wire 1 ohm DVC subs. Could someone please explain to me how to wire these subs to that particular amp. Also a diagram would be useful as well. Thanks Dave ------------- Dave

To get one ohm net load, wire each sub's set of voice coils in series for 2-ohms per speaker, then wire the two speakers in parallel to the amp for one ohm total load. The JBL BP1200.1 is actually rated as 2-ohm stable to meet its listed noise and distortion specs, although a lot of people wire them at 1-ohms and they will handle the load. You sacrafice SQ by doing that. ------------- Support the12volt.com

I've really got my mind set on this amp. Especially for the price. Will it make the subs sound bad or significantly worse than they would be with a regular 1-ohm amp (which i can't seem to find any) ? ------------- Dave

No other amp will sound better at 1 ohm than that one (at least, that you would be able to hear). It's the impedance, not the amp, that affects sound quality. Use this impedance for a SPL system. An SQ system would go at 4 ohms, and you would get a lot less power from the amp.

the only amps with decent rating at 1 ohm would be soundstream, orion, and zapco...very very high end models and thats exactly why most amps in the $900-$2000+ range better have a low THD across the board

I listen to a lot of rap in my jeep and i read that rap requires more SPL than SQ so i think this amp should do me fine. I've also heard a lot of good things about the JBL 1200.1. Anyone wanting to comment or share experiences with that amp, please do. Thanks to everyone who replied.
