Recently I got two sets of crossovers from ebay. both are in excellent working condition, but I'm unsure of which set will be best for my front stage. I have:
MB Quart QM 218.61Q
and
Focal (1)136W and (1)165W
which set would give me the most vesatility and best sound? I am powering them with a JL 300/4 and I will be running 4 TN-51 or 52 tweeters ( if that's possible) and either 5.25 or 6.5" speakers, depending on what fits.
Also, I bought a pair of 6.5 MB Quart Midbass, Q series from ebay but they were DOA :( . Where can I get these fixed and are they even worth fixing? I hooked them up and they don't move at all.
Passive crossovers are funny beasts. I've heard that they really need to be tailored to the specific drivers they will be used with. I am currently looking into home audio speaker building and am slowly getting through The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook. The list of considerations that go into a properly designed passive crossover is long and seems important to the final sound quality. Having said that, since car audio isn't that clean of an environment to begin with it might not matter much. You pros out there want to weigh in on this?
Why are you trying to peice together a component system separately? Cost?
If I were you I would either get a decent system with matching drivers and crossover (Adire Koda set would be the one I would probably order atm) OR I would use an active crossover from AudioControl (or my head unit) and forget passive crossovers altogether.
