Does anyone know if I buy an adapter plate for my grand am. How big of a speaker can i fit in the front doors without any major modifications. I will most likely get a set of infinity kappa's but i am unsure of the size that i should buy. I would like to be able to fit a 6.5 but i am not sure if i have enough clearence for that size of speaker.

what year is the grand am? The speaker sizes have changed over the years between models. Best and easiest to just go back with the same factory size since you are not wanting to do major mods. Most manufactors including Infinity shoud make factory replacement size for your car.

With an adaptor plate you should be able to massage in a oversize 6.5" speaker.

I can tell you right now that alpine type r 6.5's are a pain to fit in most doors

I had a 2000 Grand Am and the door speaker was a 4x6. I'm pretty sure they make plates that will go from 4x6 to 5-1/4, but I don't think a 6-1/2 will fit without some other modifications.

And some of us make our own plates and with a little elbow grease anything is possible.
