you probably grounded out the constant power wire check all fuses in engine and in cargo area thats what happens  answer this did you clock work when you shut off the car if no than you have the constant and switched power sorce backwords and you blew the fuse switch the power source and replace fuse. use a meter to tell wether you have the right or wrong wire simply unplug head unit from the harness that plugs directly to radio than ground black on meter and stick the red side of meter in either the yellow or red wire on the after market radios harness if you get poss 12 when car is off from red wire you need to switch the red wire with the yellow wire./..

the yellow wire is supposed to have poss 12 and the red wire only when key is on.

I've got this same problem. I've tried reversing the wires around according to the wiring diagram on an 89 cavalier. It's just that the orange wire isn't right or something(supposed to be the switch source). I've got both wires hooked to the constant source. I don't have one of those guages, what can I do?

hey reality....ummmm.........sounds like your factory wiring is F.U.B.A.R. juding by you previous posts!

if you want your headunit to work with the ignition...menaing it turns on and off with the car, and the memoy keeps...I'll be nice..

12v+ constant            White                         Ignition Harness

12V+ Ignition              Black / Yellow          Ignition Harness

Ground                         Any metal part of the vehicle near the headunit...or a factory screw.

run new wires from the wires I said to the radio and hook them up accordingly.  This should take care of your problem..

Now normally I'd telly ou to Check with a DMM...but since you don't have one.  I will say this for YOU, and this will be the only time!!!  The wires are correct, I got them outta my little " black book" meaning I've checked them atleast 5 times.

And I will assume you're a newbie to the field..so welcome to the addiction!

Btw:  the ignition harness, in case you don't knwo where to find it, is located at the end of the steering column, under the dash, just look for a bundle of wires coming out of the sterring column....

good luck bub
