What's up with magnet size ? Should magnet size be taken into real consideration when choosing a subwoofer ? Personally I have found that magnet size doesn't have a whole lot of correlation with performance. I just wondering what yalls experience is ?

No...... strength of the magent depends on the materials used in construction.

See: https://www.bcae1.com/speaker.htm at https://www.bcae1.com/ It will explain what the magnet does and you'll see that forbidden is right re: the material used. ------------- New Project: 2003 Pathfinder

Crap construction, zero R&D, fake country of origin by the use of a German-sounding name, crappy sound, literature that insinuates high quality....all marketing gimmicks with a low level product. Most of what you see with this "brand" consists of emphasizing the magent (thanks Rob for the help with the spelling) weight. It was the first thing to come to mind when I read the post question. I clicked on one of those shown there, the ones with the magent sticking up at the camera.....180 oz. Now, by golly, that must be a super competition subwoofer! ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

I like this part.... "WARNING! THESE SUBWOOFERS ARE CAPABLE OF HIGH SOUND PRESSURE LEVELS. EXPOSURE TO HIGH SOUND PRESSURE LEVELS CAN CAUSE HEARING LOSS OR DAMAGE." You mean to tell me that those things get loud? Sweet, I want a pair!

I agree with the consensus. There are way too many things to take into account. First of all, too much motor force can actually hurt you. You need just enough for the intended design. Also, a really large magnet used poorly can just be a waste. For instance, a motor that uses huge magnets but doesn't have much steel around to direct the force of those magnets (called magnetic flux) is a waste. Picture a lot of people at the DMV (magnetic flux) and only one teller is open. You have a lot of people not going anywhere. Steven Kephart Adire Audio -------------

Does the magnet help in dissipating heat and thus slightly increasing the RMS watts of a similar speaker?

No. I hear it all the time at the flea market (usually while I'm looking for cheap ceramics) "Dude, look at the awesome mondo ghetto magnet on that sub! I bet that thing bangs! And cool, it's chrome plated too! Dude we gonna bump wit dat!" Sickening. ------------- Support the12volt.com

I plan on getting the ZX-4812 12" Subwoofer looks pretty nice for a reasonable price. No joke. probably sounds decent for reasonable price as well. I dont mind giving them a shot.! not at all. MUAHAHHAA i like big magnet SUb woofers. MAUHAHAHHa i can tell all them newbies "Look at my Magnet! the biggest baddest subwoofer compared to your friends fosgate P3 sub" MAUAHHAHA SUCKAS!!! but in reality the quality of that P3 is better .

Ah haha. I bet half or more of the magnet on those woofers is just like magnet colored lead or something. That awesome.
