Ever hear of this? (wiring)

The only way i could get power to my new stereo is to connect both the power and acc to the one hot wire in my truck...is this normal?

Did you try to find another ACC wire somewhere in your steering column, or heater connectors? I did an Impala this weekend that I needed to tap an ACC from the hazard button to get ACC power to the unit.

Try that, it should be easy to find an ACC wire.

Its ok to do that but no its not really normal. The only draw back is that when you turn off the car and remove the keys , your radio will still be on and playing. This is ok unless you forget to turn off the radio and then your battery will go dead. Its just a matter of convinience to run the acc. wire to the switched 12v spot from acc. so you dont forget to turn off the radio and run down your battery.

It's normal when you blow the ignition/acc fuse for the factory radio. You didn't mention the year of the truck. On the newer ones you won't find an ACC wire at the radio plug and would need to run a wire or use a module for that specific vehicle.

Even though the wires are connected together the stereo still turns on and off when i turn the truck on and off, I think the memory doesnt stay though im not sure,, i haven't set the clock yet. It's a 87 nissan pickup. but as far as i know i dont believe its running down the battery...It started fine for me this morning.

Oh, I see.  If you cannot find the constant + you could always run one from the battery or cigaret lighter.  As is, the only thing at risk is your sanity when you have to reprogram you deck every time you start it.  I would get the DMM or testlight and try to find the original wire though.
