I have been looking at Eclipse's 8454 and Clarions DXZ945MP. I know that the Eclipse is the better quality of the two, but how much of a quality difference is there between the two?

Is the Clarion along the quality of Pioneer Premier, or between the the Pioneer and Eclipse/Nakamichi quality?

Thanks fellas.

I have always hated the sounds of clarions, IMO there slightly better than sony.   Definately go with the Eclipse!

They are not even in the same league. Next to Nakamichi, really the OLD SCHOOL Nakamichi, there is nothing comes CLOSE to the Eclipse heads.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I agree with the above.  I have owned both Clarion and Eclipse and have blown away by the simple yet powerful interface and high quality sound of Eclipse.

having had them both apart in front of me... there is no comparison... go with the Eclipse.... or make friends with the local Clarion repair guy.....

All of you Clarion haters, go check out the DRZ9255. Amazing sounding deck!

Okay.... DRZ9255 is a wee bit different, to say the least. As someone who remembers the original... it was a very very good sounding deck. Kinda in a 7909 sort of way (BTW... I still have one... just wish I could get the internal little switching power supply for it... a great sounding classic Alpine piece!)

If it was my dollar.... Eclipse, or the 9255, or DXZ945MP. I like them both, and they are solid pieces.

Too me that deck looks like a $99 Rampage cd player, i dosn't even have good functions, , the only thing to brag about is the 96kHz sampling D/A converter.

Dosen't even come close to the high Eclipse CD8454 or the Alpine's older CDA-7990.

It is an audiophile piece without toys to alter the sound. Go listen to it and then tell me it isn't a great sounding unit. I can't say if it sounds better then the CD8454, but I have listened to the CDA7990 and 9255 side by side, and there was hardly a difference, especially for $1800.
