Can I just replace the factory 8" sub (2 ohm, not sure magnet weight or wattage) with a higher quality sub without replacing the stock radio (has to be an 8", no room for anything larger)?  This is a company vehicle and I need to keep it cosmetically stock.  According to Tune Towns wiring, there is an amp under the drivers seat.  I looked under the seat and all I can find are the motors for the power seat and rear duct work for air to the back, could be under the carpet.  Any Ideas? I have arround $200.00 for another sub and amp if needed.

Thanks,

Kman

Check into some customformes from MTX, JL Audio, someone else makes it also.  Check into it.  It will probably run more than $200 though.  Look at some other aftermarket subs for better performance (JL 8w7 is the little monster but probably out of price range).  Anyone know the power this amp puts off?

You may not be able to add an amplifier to the stock system, but you can replace the woofer with a 4 ohm DVC sub, coils parallel-wired for a load of 2 ohms.  Put it in the stock location.  Search for such a subwoofer after measuring the space in the stock enclosure.

If you want to amp it separately, you would need a line out converter that would adapt to the stock system that's in place now, and an amplifier that you can hide.  And wiring from the battery, ground wire, speaker wire, and fuse holder with fuse.  Your cash availablility is a bit low for all that.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Thanks all for the quick reply.  Will try some sort of the above and post success/failure.
