I have two 12" 800w audiobahn subwoofers in a sealed box, running off a 400x2 legacy amp. Would two 12" 900w pbx evolution subs in a vented box running off the same legacy amp hit as hard as the audiobahns. the vehicle is a 1992 Honda accord lx two door with the rear seat folded down.   thank you,

If by 'hit hard' you mean have greater SPL, probably if the speakers are fairly similar. Vented enclosures are generally more efficent and can thus create greater spl levels over the tuned frequency for a given amount of power.

Would those particular drivers sound a lot better? .. I don't know. It would help if you posted links to both drivers. The difference will depend on other driver specs, namely efficiency.

i doubt they would hit as hard, I would say set up to a higher quality higher power amp, you are only giving you subs half there rms power and that legacy amp probably turelay isnt even pusing that, I do compairasons all showing a 1000 watt legacy amp versus a 25x2 high current amp...memphis hc50   puts out 400 watts max, guess which one is louder and cleaner.   Lets put it this way I am running 2   25x2 amps for my subs and hit 140's on the term lab mic all day!   I would get a better amp and build a vented box for those subs, audiobahn's love evented boxes

I am thinking of getting two 800w audiobahn amps and running one to each of the pbx subs. My audiobahn subs came stock in a audiobahn bandpass box, they are single voice coil subs and are 400rms and 800max and they sound pretty rough. I have them in a normal sealed box. the pbx subs are 450rms and 900max and they are duel voice coil subs. both pairs of subs have 4 layer 2" vioce coils. right now I am stuck with the legacy amp.

I would try to find the specs for these subs and build a ported/vented box,   then up your amp   then if your still not happy look into other subs

I dont know if these audiobahns are worth saving they have a patch on one of the cones made from a bicycle tube and some kind of glue. I removed one from the box and they look like cheap wall mart speakers, My guess is because they came in a bandpass box and were not meant to be removed.

First off .. don't even tell us what the max wattage is. It means nothing. Always quote RMS. This is true for amps and subwoofers. How many watts is the current amp RMS per channel at 2 and 4 ohms?

I agree with Jeff. Buy a quality amp before you go replacing subs. Try a vented box with your audiobahns.
