After getting my bass just right Im finally getting tired of the sound of the mids and highs in my car. I just recently purchased some eclipse 5x7s, dont remember the specific model number on them, ive been somewhat unimpressed but I attribute that to them being 5x7s, Im running a bandpass box so I was hoping to get a little more low end out of my rears. Everything is going in a 99 eddie bauer expedition with two JL 15w0s in a fourth order bandpass (hitting 158.7 as of now), running off of an eclipse 8443. I am about to buy a 4 channel or two 2 channels to power the fronts, probaby in the realm of a 551x or two 351s's, my local dealer who I am pretty good friends with is trying to convice me to get some focals (mostly by habit on his part as he gets commission), I dont really like the sound of the focals, Im not into a "crisp" tweeter sound, I dont really want my music to sound muddy or anything, I just cant take such a harsh treble. The dealer around here only has alpine, focal, and JL for components, I would be pretty interested in a set of kodas but I have never heard them just heard good things, and I cnat fit them in my car. I liked the sound of the JLs much better than the focals, but I heard some type x's yesterday and their tweeter material just sounded better to me, Im wondering who makes something with a nice soft, smooth sounding tweeter that anyone has any experience with. Try silk tweeters from either Diamond Audio or Memphis. Fabric tweeters will generally sound smoother and less bright than metal ones.

If you can find them, the Boston Acoustics Rally series has soft dome tweeter that sounds real nice (I'm with you, and I don't like the titanium dome tweeter like on the Quartz and Boston Pro series)

And I would say screw the oval speakers and go round, get 2 component sets this will help alot with your mids and highs

I have the Boston Rally components (6.5s) in the front doors of my suburban and I really like their sound. They are pretty neutral but I think the highs are great. They arn't screaming at you or harsh, they are just right.

Ok I will probably be buying these this friday so if anybody knows of some other very soft (preferably like a silk) tweeter please let me know. So far Im leaning towards the Alpine Type X (SPX-137R) components, they have a very nice soft sound to them and I can get them very cheap from Ike Sound or my friend (who is an authorized dealer) can get them for me about $120 off retail, not really sure what that comes out to. I know the choice is mine in the end, but I want to know of maybe something else to look around for as my options so far have been very limited.

Have you tried the diamond or memphis? They are some of the highest quality components I can think of with soft sound.

The diamond audio silk tweeters are very subtle without that "tinny" sound you get from aluminum or titanium tweets. I have used them for the last year and love the sound. The drawback is they only come with their hex series speakers which are a little pricey (279.00 for a component set on onlinecarstereo.com). Just sharing my experience with them.
