I have always read to avoid using the factory 12V power/ground leads in the wiring harness for the install of an upgraded HU, however, this is how it is done in nearly every single install bay in the nation: find the corresponding Metra adaptor for make/model, splice, crimp or solder and slide the HU into the sleeve and the clients on his way.

doesn't this invite the greatest potential for ground loops?

who here uses the factory harness power/ground? while others use direct, fused 12V power from the battery and a chasis ground for their installs? any opinions, stories would be great to hear.

I'm speaking mainly of HU, as any multi-Amp system would require the install of high current power anyway.

...enjoy hearing all of the problems, and problem-solvers on the service.

Depends on the headunit and the size of the internal amp....

The new V-Drive Head Units from Alpine I always try to make my own power and one of them comes with an 8 Ga install kit....But with most small HU I dont worry about it...
