The protect LED on my infinity 7540A amp comes on intermitently during "peaks" in the music at higher (but not abnormally high) volumes. I don't think the amp is clipping as the clipping light doesn't come on and when the protect LED comes on the music stops until it goes off. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this. Thanks in advance.

A budy of mine hooked his cap up in series one timer and caused a similar problem, check that out.

Grounds maybe ??? How long has this been happening? Double check your grounds are secure at both ends, making good contact to bare metal.

Make sure your subs arn't presenting too low of an impedance load on your amp, like said above.

Thnaks for the response guys. First thing I'll check is the ground. I'm not running any subs just running two sets of kappa perfect components. I just finished the install today so this has been happening today only. Thanks again for the help I will try the suggestions posted here.

That amp sucks first off. I like infinity high's and some of their mids, but their amps just aren't built right. True they are CEA approved, but if you want to go with something else CEA certified that will really crank out the power, go with that bad a$$ JBL amp (can't rmember which number) but boy does it crank. Check it out at www.jbl.com Sorry if you found this to be negative, but really amplifiers are not infinity's forte. ------------- "I don't play games. Thnaks for the responses. The input gain is at it's lowest level, so I'm pretty sure that's not it. The speakers are Rated at 100 watts RMS 400 watt max and the amp is supposed to be able to put out 113 watts RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms. So there really shouldn't be a power shortage. Could it be a ground problem if I have no problem playing the music at a lower volume? Maybe I have a bad connection? I'll have to check it out tomorrow. Thanks for the responses guys.

• PROBLEM:
No audio (PROTECT LED flashes every
4 seconds).
CAUSE and SOLUTION:
DC voltage on amplifier output. Amplifier may
need service; see enclosed warranty card for
service information.
• PROBLEM:
No audio (PROTECT LED is on).
CAUSE and SOLUTION:
Amplifier is overheated. Make sure amplifier
cooling is not blocked at mounting location;
verify that speaker-system impedance is within
specified limits.
• PROBLEM:
No audio (PROTECT and POWER LEDs flash).
CAUSE and SOLUTION:
Voltage less than 9V on BATT+ connection.
Check vehicle charging system.
• PROBLEM:
No audio (PROTECT LED is on).
CAUSE and SOLUTION:
Voltage greater than 16V or less than 8.5V on
BATT+ connection. Check vehicle charging
system.
• PROBLEM:
Distorted audio.
CAUSE and SOLUTION:
Input sensitivity is not set properly, or amplifier
or source unit is defective. Check INPUT LEVEL
setting, or check speaker wires for shorts or
grounds.
• PROBLEM:
Distorted audio (PROTECT LED flashes).
CAUSE and SOLUTION:
Short circuit in speaker or wire. Remove
speaker leads one at a time to locate shorted
speaker or wire, then repair.

Answer: Get rid of the amp and get a JBL for the same money.
