Should I use a mono amp for a set of components ( 6 1/2)?
No, it should be run stereo unless you are relying on these speakers for bass. It won't hurt the speakers to run mono just won't sound right. Mono should be used for bass.

I promise to be good.
Tell Darwin I sent you.
I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.
Not to mention that some mono amps are class D... These are for bass only and will never sound good for anything else.

Mono is class D, its the same thing.

No, it isn't. Mono amplifiers can certainly be any class. Class D means it has a PWM (switching) output, much like a fan speed controller. But plenty of mono amps are Class AB.

I think almost all of the previous statements have been wrong.
This would be easier if I could draw a quick venn diagram. In fact,
here.
Mono amplifiers are circle A in the linked diagram.
Class D amplifiers are circle B in the linked diagram.
You should learn:
* Mono is not equal to class D.
* SOME amps that are mono happen to be class D. AREA C on the diagram.
* Not all mono amplifiers are class D amplifiers.
* Not all class D amplifiers are mono.
I hope this helped.
So, the answer is "it depends." It depends on the particular amplifier. Many class D mono amplifiers are only meant to be subwoofer amps. Subwoofer amps typically have limited frequency range output. i.e. they don't reach higher frequencies. Furthermore, many subwoofer amplifiers are not as clean as full-range amplifiers, because they don't have to be.
On the other hand, SOME class D mono amplifiers are NOT only subwoofer amplifiers. SOME of these would work wonderfully as a component amplifier. Just remember you'll need 1 mono amplifier for each channel. (For a total of 2 in a typical stereo application)
This
Xtant full-range class D mono amplifier produces excellent sound quality rivaling many normal amplifiers, is tiny, produces little heat, and is very efficient.
So, vlamz24, we need more information about the mono amplifier you intend to use.
Others, the lesson for today is that sweeping statements containing words like NEVER and ALWAYS should be used very rarely and with care. </publicserviceannouncement>
Jesus, this is the kind of dribble I'm writing after finishing my 150th footnote in a 40 page article. Sorry.

kfr01, that's exactly what I said. I didn't realize that Xtant made such an amp, though.

Of course you can used mono amps to run that. Will it sound good or even right? Maybe not, depending on the amp. The XTANT amp will definitely make it sound good, baring the fact that you have the cash to shell out for one of those baby's. Really, i got a Cadence ZRS-4 and i couldn't be more happy with it, being that it powers a full 125 Watts x 4 @ 4 ohms RMS and cleans out the competition for SQ. Why are you so adamite about getting a mono amp?

Nope, that's for bass only.

That is definitely not your amp. Find a good 4 Channel like an alpine or a cadence, nakamichi, zapco, or us amps. They will all treat you well.
