I have a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4x4 with the annoying PASSlock system.

The previous owner set the security PIN for the CD player. We had to recently replace the battery, so the CD player locked itself out due to the power loss. It just says "LOCK" when you try and switch it on.

Does anyone know how to reset the PIN in the unit? Can I simply open it up and remove a battery to clear the memory, or will it require some sort of flash-memory erasure by the dealer? I'm a computer tech so I am familiar with clearing CMOS memory, but I wanted to gather some information from those with experience before I started disassembling the unit.

Also, I have the factory alarm system with the remote central locking and it works fine, except for a couple of months now, the alarm will sound whenever you disarm and unlock the truck, until you hit the disarm button again. Kinda embarassing when a whole parking lot of people look round when you get into your vehicle!

If you get out of the vehicle, press the button on the door to lock the doors and close the door, before you even use the remote control, the alarm will sound by itself.

Another thing is that sometimes if you get out, close the door without locking it, after a period of time it will lock itself, but that may be a built-in security feature!

I was thinking of just ripping all that inferior OEM equipment out and installing an aftermarket alarm. Is it relatively straightforward to remove the old alarm install a new one with an immobilizer and remote door locking? I wouldn't want to go crazy and install an expensive system, just something fairly simple.

Thanks
