more bass when doors open?

I read the post about the buick with cancellation problems. i have a dodge ram 1500 single cab with the sub where the center seat/console used to be. i noticed one day that when i have the doors open there is a signifigant volume gain. 9db at 65hz. i read the internet article at https://www.installer.com/tech/aiming2.html on woofer aiming.
i tried facing it backward first and it ended up being louder forwards(and sounds better) so i accepted it that way. i have also had it facing up and it still sounded pretty good. if i face it to the floor, will it do the trick?

its worth a shot to face it downwards. just make sure there is enough room for the sub to extend and to breath. in 95% of the cars when the door or window is open the bass gets louder since its not pressurizing the cabin anymore. even a window rolled down 1/2" is enough to make it louder. i had a downward firing 8" under my dash (aside from the 12 in the trunk) in my last car and it sounded really good. not many people do downward firing but if it works for home theater i dont see why it shouldnt work as well for car audio. try it out and see how it goes.

i have the sub mounted on the brackets where the center seat was so it is about 3 inches above the carpet, i did this because of the tranny's heat. how many inches would be suitable? my first sub box i built was for my old man's home theater and i had a 10" sub about an 1" 1/2 from the floor. for a 12" w6, 3 inches should be fine?

3" should be more than enough. i made the space for mine enough for the one-way xmax that the subwoofer may have. had the front and 2 sides open for it to breath and it sounded wonderful.

i tried it out, reversed phase and it sounds amazing compared to before.  also sounds like it is coming from the sides more because the waves are being routed down the transmission hump(used to have it so it would go around the windshield).  its in a sealed box right now, and i am planning on throwing it in a ported one.  where would the best place to put the port be in this situation?  the least cancellation.  i think the back but just want to make sure.

glad you like it. i thought it common practice to have it on the same plane as the face of the woofer. this way its easier to have the sound from the port in phase with the sound from the woofer. ive seen them ported otherwise but dont know if itd be more difficult to make it sound as good. if you have some wood laying around, slap together a makeshift box and screw around with porting ideas.

Port it down to like 30 or 32 Hz, it will blast if you build the box right.
