I was wondering if it would be possible to run a guitar or bass guitar through my car audio system. In house "amps" have an amplifier and then 8 or 10 inch speakers.....just like in my truck. For portable concerts (it's a long story), can I put a jack into my system, plug my bass guitar in, then run my signal through the amplifiers and out my subs??

Wouldn't it be just like any other external source ie. mp3 player, or laptop?

Would I need some sort of device (maybe just a switch) so that I don't try and force signal back through my deck?

Has anyone tried it before?

Yes, you can do what you described if you have an auxiliary input, or you can use an FM modulator, or add a preamp that you can run both the head unit and guitar through instead of running everything through the head unit itself. If you use an auxiliary input on the head unit or if you use an FM modulator, I'd still suggest running the guitar through an additional preamp.
