Does anyone have the stereo wiring diagram for a 91 Explorer XLT? I am switching out the stereo in one and they don't have the adapter for the speakers just the power. So I need to splice the speakers to the head unit. Only problem is Ford doesn't use normal color coding Ie WHITE/ white W\black stripe for front left etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
My wire colors are:

Green
Blue with black stripe
Blue
Purple with white
white with red stripe
white with orange stripe
yellow
brown

It sounds like you have cut the small square plug off the gray cable. If that is the case It will make your job a little harder but its not to bad. Here is what you should do. Remove the big rear panel on the passanger side of the truck to access the factory amp. You will find that there are two plugs one on top and one on bottom. The one on bottom goes to your speakers and the one on top goes to your head unit location in the dash. First test for the speaker wires to locate all 4 positive and negative wires then you can use what ever colors you want in the gray cable to connect the speaker wires from the head unit to to the speaker wires at the factory amp location. However if you explorer has the factory audio system with a subwoofer behind the same rear panel then some of this information will be slightly different. Just let me know if you need anything else.
