do those cloth covered grilles on the dash just pop out ?  or are they held in from the bottom by screws.  I am trying to put speakers in the front and back and having a little trouble with it.   Any tips on putting the receiver in the dash too?   thanks for your help

A lot of times those grilles on the older trucks are either held in by screws or are actually molded into the plastic and they just look like they come out.
As far putting a receiver in...I always call Crutchfield and tell them I need a kit for whatever year car and they send you all the details for taking the dash, doors, etc apart for installing your items (small fee unless you buy a HU or speakers from them and then they include it for free).

The front speaker grills are held in place by two spring loaded clips on the front of each grill. Use a small flat bladed screw driver to gently pry up each rear (closest to seats) corner of the grill. The clips are brass and need to be gently pushed towards the window. The forward edge of the grill has tabs that fold under the front of the dash. It is normal that the clips may pop off the bottom of the grill. They aren't held in too well. If they break off, just glue them in place again. The rear speakers are harder to replace if the grills are built into the trim panel and are huge. You must remove the panel below the rear windopw first. Pull the bottom of the panel towards the front of the truck and then push it upwards. It's held in by clips and may need a sharp push to release them. Again, the clip mounts are know to break easily. Next remove the upper and lower seatbelt bolts. Remove the pocket/jack enclosure that runs behind the rear seat. Remove the screws holding the trim panels which contain the speaker grills. Pull the bottom towards the opposite side of the truck. The top of the panel will rotate towards the side window. It has tabs which key into the upper roof panel. DON'T try and take out the roof panel as it has screws hidden by the side panels holding it in place.
For the radio get a Metra install kit for your truck. They even have a storage pocket available for the portion of the radio above the heater controls. Get a wiring plug for the truck to to simplify wiring and it also extends the wires enough for the new relocated radio. Be sure to remove the rear support bracket for the factory cassette deck if so equipped. Also check the antenna for any signs of corrosion at the antenna connector under the hood below the antenna. The factory antennas are known to corrode. If it's bad replace it. Harada makes a direct replacement for these trucks and it will plug into the new radio. If the antenna is OK, you will need an antenna lead adaptor to convert the
GM lead to an aftermarket one. If you truck is an extended cab, you will also have to remove the rear bench seat to change the rear speakers.
