Hi all...
I was wondering if anyone knows of a decent source for light bulb boots (colour change). Up this way (near Toronto, Ontario, Canada) i've checked with most of the local dealers and no luck. I have an Alpine HU which is now in a 2000 Grand Am, and it's gotta go red - the factory green is too bright. If anyone knows of any on Ebay....
Thanks in advance everyone - the forums are great and have answered many questions for me in the past. Hope y'all can help me out...
Mark.
well check this out first of all , your dash board lights are all white bulbs and the covers make them green orange whatever i mean i can tell you how to do it. i can do it , i can tell you how to do it but to do it is another story and it can throw off the calibration of the needles so in all essance no it cant be done with out a skilled person doing it and knowing what he is doing sorry

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.
Thanks for your reply, Jon. Actually i'm just looking to change the colour of the HU's lights. When the Alpine was in my Civic, i actually used the covers right out of the factory radio and it worked perfectly. The problem here is this Delco P.O.S. has red LEDs for its backlight colours, therefore no boots to transfer. Denon used to sell kits for their radios back in the early 90s but i haven't found a car audio dealer or manufacturer with anything similar.
Hell, i could even use an old head unit with the right colour boots at this point. Either that, or the HU will be going to LEDs this week. I've done it before and it works very well, it just is somewhat permanent.
As for skilled, i was an installer for a well known shop up this way and was judging CANII and IASCA events in the early 90s. I have a small shelf of trophies in the garage when i competed in 0-500 Pro. Lot of fun, just way too expensive. Now it's just a hobby... :-)
