Im am doing an install for my brother and he wants to throw in an Eclipse CD851 H/U, with an Alpine MRD-M500 Mono amp (500W RMS) to power 2 12" Eclipse SW7124DVC-T2 subs (450W RMS). I would wire the sub to a 2 Ohm load. But the main question i have is, would it just be better off to run 1 of the subs seeing how they will handle 450 W and the amp will put out 500W instead of using both. How i see it is the amp will only be able to power 1 sub fully. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

If You Cant Hear It Before You See It, Whats The Point?
If he already has both subs go ahead and use them. each sub will see 250w. it should sound pretty good.

You will do better to run just one DVC bridged 12". The M501 is a 4ohm Mono which when bridged will be 2ohms. This will work if the speaker is a 2+2.
I would rather have one great speaker working then two at half throttle.

Most subs can perform well with significantly less than the reccomended rms. Do yourself a favor and keep the 2 subs..purchase the JBL 600.1 off www.sounddomain.com for $160 and send each sub 300wrms...those amps put out the power they're suppose to..you can't go wrong with them.

He has a M500 Amp all ready. So why buy a new one? Just hook them both up and see how it sounds. Then try one speaker.
