I've never tried.  A nice table saw is better.  Edit:  even a crap table saw is probably better.

Simple answer no. Get a skill saw (cheap) or a table saw(expensive but better) Sears has the new skill saws that use a laser to help keep the cut straight.

it will work just fine, as long as you set up a straight fence for the router to follow. you will lose more material using the router opposed to a table saw, but if it's all you got, it will work just fine

Its a pain to set up....and saint is right you lose a lot of material....I would definatly recomend investing in a good table saw....And a suggestion get one with the Vacum attachment the dust is hell on the sinuses....And it will keep your shop cleaner...

don't get me wrong, if I had a circ saw, or a table saw the router would be last on my list, but I was just saying it could be done if you needed it too, thats all.

It will work fine for cutting a straight line, but is wasteful. Table saw or circular saws are the best for regular cuts.
