ok so im pretty new to all of this, i dont know detailed info. about car audio. I have a 87' Toyota Supra and I want something where people will hear me coming down the corner and say " oh here he comes" or something like that. Right now i dont have all that much room in the trunk since its a hatchback and I already have a pair of 6x9's in each corner of the trunk in boxes. I know even one 12'' sub would make it sound all rattles and not a clean deep sound. The subs I was going for were two 12'' Kicker Comp VR's  that are 800watts max 400rms and If you guys can give me an example on what would be a good enough amp to push the subs to where I wont have to worry about distortion and all that type of stuff. I also want to know what type of box or enclosure I should shoot for to ensure the best sound without all the rattling and without having to use any dynamat. I was thinking a custom enclosure to fit the trunk. Would that reduce any rattling at all versus any other plain box? The price doesnt have to be cheap...im shooting for quality but nothing best of the best, just good enough to get the job done.

Well unless you use some form of sound deadening your going to have ratttles. And if your worried about space a custom fiberglass box would take up the least space. As for an amp you need to figure out what impedence the subs are, and how many Ohms the amp is going to see.

I know it wont totally eliminate the rattling but just as long as it wont be embarrasing to even have bad rattling. I mean i've heard some nasty systems from a bunch of kids that just buy whatever subs/box/amp and I just want it to sound better. As for the impedence where would i be able to figure that out? The Kicker CompVr's offer a dual-2 ohm and a dual 4 ohm which im not sure what would be suggested...if you could just match everything that would work best together......

I dont turn my sh*t up just to make people mad that was not my intention at all....I was just trying to give an example of the kind of sound I want.

I know there will be a lot of discussion after this one because no one really like rockford anymore, but I would go with at least 2 12" fosgate stage 3 subs dual 4 ohm. Buy a kenwood excelon 811d. wire your subs to 1 ohm this amp will do 1000 watts at 1 ohm and is cea compliant. You can wire you subs to 1 ohm by connecting all four + together to the + terminal on the amp and then connect all four - to the - terminl on the amp. This will sound great. As for the rattles If you do not want to use any dampening material I would sugest to put your system in and turn it up a little till you hear it rattle and find everything that rattles and try to secure it as best as possible. The sound pressure from even a lower class system will rattle your car. It is not the system but the sound pressure from the bass that rattles the car.

First off you got a sweet car, I love Supras, the third gen (like 93-98 i think) are phat as hell, but the older ones like yours are cool to. It’s also a nice car to put a system in, almost anything is loud in a hatchback. If you want good mids and highs, ditch those 6x9s in boxes in the back, and get some good front speakers. The rattle really shouldn’t be to bad, you probably won’t even be able to hear the rattle inside the car. If you don’t want to pay for dynomat (and I can’t blame you) there are other sound dampings, like BrownBread. One nice 12 or 15 might do the trick, a 15" kicker solobaric would be sick in that car. But those comp vr 12s are nice to, my buddy has 2 in his caprice and they pound pretty good. Also, don’t pay attention to the max watts a sub or amp advertises, look at the rms, it will give you a better idea of what the subs can handle. The CVR12s can handle more then there rms, so I would suggest a Hifonics Brutus 1000W amp for those, its fairly inexpensive and puts out what it claims to. As for the custom enclosure, it really wont make your subs sound better, and will be costly, so either build your own box, or buy a pre fab one.

my brother ran 2 compVR's in a sealed enclosured powered by a 900watt (RMS) Rockford amp. it was nice, probably with a better sized box, tweaking of the gain/crossover it could have sounded better.

i would suggest a 900wattRMS rockford, because i know it works. or a soundstream amp. dont fall into a rut of buying low end or middle of the line amps if you want sound quality. if the compVR's dont sound good enough for you off a good amp, then you can buy a new sub without getting a new amp, or wandering whether its the amp or not.

and just for your information, the MAX rating on speakers, means diddly-squat. dont pay attention to max, just match up the RMS (within 10-15% either way of a subs max and you wont have problems overpowering, or feeling under powered)

Well IMO I would not buy kicker. Yes they do get loud, so you know I guess if that's what you are looking for, but they are not very clean subs. If you do already hav ethem bought then a good enclosure to match up with the space you have to work with goes a long way in sound quality. As for the amplifier, research and research some more until you find what you know will last a long time and will sound good for the money. If you have not already purchased those subs and are thinking about something else, hit us up here in your post and I know I'll be glad to give you some reccomendations!

okay so im hearing 900watt to 1000 watt amp that would push the Comp Vr's (which im probaly gonna go with)perfectly fine. As for the box, i guess I could go with a prefabricated box but I would still like to hear more on how a custom enclosure would be better, because the space could really work for me. I know I can secure a lot of the stuff that rattles a bit more( license plate etc.). For me sound dampening is not out of the picture as far as $ goes. So for sure im going 2 12'' Kicker CompVR's just give me the amp you would think goes best along with the box/enclosure.

don't you mean an amplifier that handles 400W RMS at 4 ohm? if they are 4 ohm DVC subs then you might want something like this https://cgi.ebay.com/dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=5735759262&rd=1 or  even for 50W less https://cgi.ebay.com/dll?ViewItem&category=18796&item=5734387238&rd=1.....i think at least
