Hey everyone. My buddy had a set of Eclipse 6x9's in the back of his car. I think the model number on them is :89940. I'm not sure. They say: 89940 Point Source on the back, so I am assuming thats the model number. Anyhow, I checked them with my multimeter, and the woofer read at 3.5ohms, and the tweeter read at 3.5. The cross over was reading at like  .2 anyone know what the problem is?

But yea, im sure someone out there knows what the hell im talkin about. this is my first time lookin at eclipse speakers, and i must say, the built quility is absolutely stunning. very nice set, beside the fact that "arent" working.

The resistance reading was accurate on those for 4 ohm drivers.  Have you hooked anything else up to those speakers yet to test them?  You will have to isolate and start somewhere with the troubleshooting.  You might just disconnect one set from the wiring in his car, then run a long speaker wire from the amp in your car over to it and see if it works.

As far as the .2 on the crossover, between which terminals are you testing? I have that very set of 6x9's, and the drivers ARE rated 4 ohms, so 3.5DCR should be OK... And you're right - they are SMOKIN' 6x9's!

There are 4 terminals on that crossover, 2 input, and 2 output. The input terminals SHOULD read infinite between them, and the output (without the tweeter connected) should read about .2 (which will be the effective resistance of your DMM leads). Neg in to neg out should read the same, but pos in to pos out will be infinite. I am pretty certain these come with AT LEAST a 12dB per octave passive XO, so these should be pretty close numbers.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

ok, after posting this, i connected them to my home receiver (i'm indoors), and they sounded just fine. My receiver is 100x6, so i wasnt starving it of power by any means. But another question came to me. I was just holding it, by the magnet. And, i didnt hear really any bass, is that cuz it didnt have a baffle? Im just curious, because some subwoofers can just be placed on the ground and can make audible bass. just curious.

I believe the infinite baffle that speaker was in was testing the limits of infinite baffles.  Whole-house enclosure was probably just a tad too large.
