I installed a Pioneer stereo in my sister's 1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT. Power works, the stereo itself works (bench tested after removal), but when it's installed, there's no sound. I used a wiring diagram from another site, and all the wires are hooked up correctly, but when I put it in the car, there's no sound. The stereo comes on, and it works visually (everything lights up, it's actually playing the cd), but there's no sound from the speakers. What's going wrong?

Still using the factory speakers?  Could be a hidden factory amp.  Did this car have a BOSE or Monsoon system?

Bench test it..then plug up a test speaker to test the output from the radio. If everything is fine that car may have an amp that has to be bypassed or turned on.

It just has the factory Delco stereo, nothing out of the ordinary....the only wire that wasn't hooked up was the dimmer wire, so that wasn't it...I'm not sure what the problem is. We hooked up speakers to all 4 outputs last night and hooked it to a PC power supply, it worked fine...almost got the cops called on us. But in the car, nothing. I'm going out today to take the harness off and redo everything.
