Sorry for the long post...

Just wanted to run this by you guys just to get your input. A customer came in and had i belive a 95 miata with a basic stock system. He purchases a radio to have installed, which we do so using the correct factory harness and dash kit. So for anyone thats done one of these its a pretty simple disassembly. (pop out the 2 ac vents and remove about 7 screws and pop of the radio bezel. Well after all is said and done the customer calls 2 days later claiming the day he took the car he noticed a few hours later the tach wasnt working. I asked him as to why he didnt call the same day or come back to the store and he had no response. So he came in and I popped the radio out using the radio removal keys just to look at the wiring behind the radio.

The wiring was nice and neat and again a factory harness connector was used, the 2 mazda radio plugs are the only plugs behind the radio.  So I put the deck back in and look at the tach and notice tha the needle is behind the little stop pin that sits a zero, so when you turn the car on the needle moves up but since the stop pin is in the way the tach wont go any further. Fortunatly there was a similar car parked across the street so that let me know for sure the tach needle was positioned wrong.

My question is has anyone ever seen this problem? me or the other installer that was there wasnt and belive its just the faulty tach, since the needle does move when the car is turned on, but just cant move past 0rpm cause its on the otherside of that stop pin.

yea my car actually, i had jump started it with another car and for some reason, the tach spun all the way around and hit the stopper. I had to crack the gauge apart and spin it back myself. Did you have to jump it to get it out of the bay ?

no, didnt need to jump start, just wired up the harness and plugged it in and the car started up fine even tried disconnecting the radio and starting the car no change in the tach going counterclockwise back to 0rpm, like is said when you start it it tries to go up but cant,
