Ok right now i have alpine MRV t 320 it needs 160RMS to power my component set but right now its powering my jl sub. The wire running ot it is 10 GUAGE. I want to give my amp back to the components and install another amp to power the sub. THe amp i will get will be 300RMS * 1 @ 4ohms Maybe 400RMS amp. Anyways how will i install this do i just buy a seperate amp kit and hook it up to the battey along with 10guage wire next to it ? is it ok to do this. Of will i haev to r un a 2 guage wire to the back seat and use a distribution block to feed the power to the two amps? im confused on how to do this. I had the last amp installed by a shop so this time i dont wanna pay em because i know how i can see the wires and ill be able to do it myself. anyways how am i gonna do this can you give me some advice. the total power that will ill be drawing is 600RMS. but most likely is goign to be 300RMS for sub and then 160 for the components. thanks any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you use a 2 awg it will be more than enogh current for those amps and it will possibly look cleaner than running two 10 awg down the side of your car. But I would never power a sub amp with 10awg wire.

I think 2 awg is much more then you need. 4 awg will do fine. and it's cheaper.

Just run one 4G wire to the trunk, then run 2 8g wire to the amps.

You shouldnt need a new battery. If you find that your lights are dimming a lot, then you should upgrade your alternator, not battery. But you should be fine with your stock alternator, im pulling more power then your amps will be and my stock (probably original) '88 crown vic alt. is holding up just fine, aka. little to no light dimming.

For your system I would go with 4guage wire and as spooty said, wal-mart has a pretty decent kit if you are trying to keep you expenses down.  Also, I noticed in the civics that the negative battery cables are a little small so you might want to upgrade it with 4gauge also.  This will also help you system and your car electrical system.  As for the 10gauge wire, you can leave it there if you want to, but since you will be running a new cable I would remove the 10 gauge while replacing it with the 4.  This makes for a clean install and less things to worry about if you ever need to service your system.

Some possible uses for 10 gauge wire:

1.  Use it to strangle the next door neighbor's cat.

2.  Use it for the remote turn on wire, just for looks.

3.  Put it in your toolbox for various purposes, like wiring subs in the box, sub wiring to the amp for that "power" look, etc.

In all, 10 gauge is just a mistake.  You can run dual wires from the battery, but that also means dual fuse holders, dual fuses, dual holes in the firewall....ultimately, it's not worth it.  I wouldn't bother running any amplifier power or ground with less than 8 gauge wire.  And you can use online sources for your wiring and distro block needs.

The amp kit said it would be good for 200RMS. I told the installer to use their amp kits if needed they said it would be fine. Anyways i will buy a 4 GUAage amp kit run to a distro block then run 2 8guage to each amp ? is this the best way? i will have 300RMS amp for sub and 200RMS for amp for the components.

ok i dunno if i shoudl start a new thread their is a weird rattle coming from my sub or sub box i put ear near sub and i hear the bass and im hearing a rattle... i dont think its the acutal sub do you think someothign got inside the subbox its got a big port. if the sub were damaged woudl yuou here rattling noises? it sounds liek its comign from the box im gonna open up box tomorrw and check it out any reccomendations.

Yeah, you'll have to open it up.  Most times, if a mouse gets in through the port you just hear squeaking noises.  Birds will have flapping noises.  Rabbits don't do anything.  So, a rattling noise is likely on the sub itself.  Look at the tinsel leads and see if one is bent close to the cone...so that the cone is banging against it.  If so you can bend it up a little by hand.

i hope its nothign major as i haev no warranty. i was only putting 220Watts rms to it it can do well over 300RMS anyways is this noise you cant here it in the cabin u just get the bass but it sounds ghetto from the outside.

Generally, noise that you hear from the outside, away from the car, is the stress and rattle of the car's sheet metal.  Make sure you get a complete damping job done. (Dynamat, BrownBread, etc.)
