My car suffers from the dimming light effect from too small an alternator and too much current draw, but I was curious to know if any damage to my battery or alternator is happening?

The more current you draw the harder the alt has to work. If the alt can't keep up then the power gets drawn from the batt. So what you are doing will cause both to fell prematurely.

Low voltage = higher current demands = potentially fried alternator.  It is possible to destroy an alternator as well as other important components in your car, since every time the lights dim the system voltage is too low.  I've seen ECU computers fried and other components die due to low voltage conditions.

so i ought to upgrade the alternator? won't the added current from the higher alt be disruptive to the rest of the car? Other suggestions

all of the car's electronics pull the amount of current they need for operation. other than the physical constraints of the new alternator and attatchments, should be no disruption
