mono amps

I need to know which would be better, a mono block amp or a two channel. I just got two 10" pioneer premier 1500SPL subs?

A mono amp be a better choice becasue it will draw less power from your cars electrical system, and be more effective as far as the amount of power put out compared to the amount of power taken in. But either kind of amp will work, so just look for a good deal and dont worry to much about it.

Are you trying to tell me that a 100 watt monoblock, loaded to put out 100 watts, is more efficient that a stereo 50X2 stereo amplifer, loaded to put out 50 watts times 2? Think about what you are saying before you say it. A 100 watt amp is a 100 watt amp is a 100 watt amp... *IF* you are thinking aboutt he differences between Class A/B, vs. Class D, vs. T-Mode, then yes there are efficiencies to consider, but a mono amp is NOT NECESSARILY a Class A/B, Class D, or T-Mode amplifier. ALL amplifers can be any class the engineer desired.

Back to the original question - the answer will depend on whether you are desiring to bridge the amp, run it stereo, what loads are available for you to achieve, what the amp is capable of... Give us a little more information to work with, such as what are your subs, DVC or SVC, 8, 4, or 2 ohm, which amp are you considering... you know, things like that.

Maybe pimpin should have qualified what he said by adding, "class D mono." That would be more efficient, with regards to power draw, right?

Again, unless you are comparing it to a Class-D full range amp (which do exist - digital is NOT just for bass anymore), then yes. There are many items of information left out of the question, and I really just don't ever jump to conclusions - I like to have all of the information first...

My subs are dvc, 4 ohm rated, and handle 1500 watts max and 600 rms. the amp I'm lookin at gettiin is the 1000 watt pioneer premier class d  mono, 600 watts x 1 @  4 ohms max, and 300 watts x 1 @  4 ohms. I know alot about multi channel amps, but not anything about mono amps. my last system hit 150 in spl. so I'm tryin to hit close to 160. does anybody think thats possible with those subs and amp? Or should I get an amp for each sub?

Uhh.. are you planning on running at 1ohm or 4?

If 4, there's no way you'll even come close to 160 with that amp. You'd be getting 300w rms TOTAL. 150w per speaker. If 1 ohm, I'm frankly not sure that amp will last long. I can't tell you for sure, never used the amp myself. Generally amps in that price range aren't 1ohm stable.

Wiring concepts for multi-channel amps and mono-amps are the same. Just fewer channels. ;-)

If you don't think that's enough power try the 1500w one. That'll have the capability to punish your speakers.
