Question on bass

I was wondering how do I keep high and mid ranges out of my subs?

I find when my subs are in my car that I can only turn up the volume to about 24 when the max is 36 when distortion sets in. Distortion from the treble range.

I was wondering how can I stop the treble from reaching the subs? Without the subs I can turn the radio up loud and no distortion is present.

Anyone have suggestions?

You need to set a low pass crossover, these are included on most amplifiers.

Set it at around 80 or 100hz.

Low pass crossover? So would that be in the intructions on it?

I just go through the settings and select the crosssover and set it at 80 to 100hz?

What brand of amp and model number is your amp. I should tell you in the manual how to do it but if you post the amp info we might be able to help as well.

I am posotive it's a Alpine MRD-M301 I thought for some reason though that it was 300W x 1. Hmmmmm considering I have 2 12" JL WO's.

Read the manual. But yes, generally all you need to do is turn on the LOW PASS crossover and set it to around 80hz.

Try it and see if it works.

Ok, well I looked at the amp, but it doesn't really describe what each frequency is?

It has like mode 2 and mode 3 and mode 4, I am not sure where the intructions went so that is going to be a problem. I was wondering if anyone has worked with the digital alpine amps and could help me out.

A subwoofer will not cause distortion when it tries to play mid, and high frequencies.

But anyway, yeah you need a lowpass filter.

Are you running the speakers and the sub off of the same amp?

If you arn't, then you probabl;y have the gain improperly set. You said that when the sub is not playing, the rest of the system plays distortion free at loud volumes. This is an indication that the subwoofer amp is improperly set up.

Ok went through and checked everything and I am going to tell you what I have everything set at.

Input Mode- I have the amp set on 2 channel, which I think it should be on 1 since it's an Alpine MRD-300 which is a mono amp. I have the input level set at 0. db and the gain set at 6 db.

Low Pass Filter- I have it set to on, and have it set at 80hz

Subsonic - Set to on with the frequency at 25hz

Parametric EQ- I have it set to on with the frequency set to 50hz and the width set to 1 and then the Level set to 10.

Bass Compensation - Set to on, only thing I can do with this amp.

Time Correction - Off
Phase - set to 0 degrees
Amp Set - Which just identifies the amp
Output Disable - Set to off

Those are the settings that I have currently. Anything that I need to change that looks bad?

Um... You have the bass boost on man. I don't know what the "width" of the EQ means, probably octave. But Level almost certainly means Decibel. And you have it set to 10 ! A 10Db bass boost at 50Hz.

Please turn the EQ off completely! Don't adjust the amp with the EQ turned on.
