I have a 83' chevy cavalier and bought a kenwood KDC-MP6025. I got a guide to my car wiring hooked it up and whevever i turn on my dash lights the deck turns off and won't turn back on till the dash lights are off. I checked the voltage of the power wires and they both stay above 12v when the dash lights are on or off. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

it sounds like you wired your ACC wire to your lights relay wire, or a wire from that switch, a friend of mine did that, but wired it to the cruise switch by accident, so if he turned the cruise off his deck shut off.

Disconnect your radio. Use a volt meter to recheck your wiring. GM uses two yellow, two gray and two dark brown wires at the radio. One yellow is the ignition power and the other is the left rear speaker negative lead. One gray is the left front negative speaker wire and the other is for the dash lamps that dim. One brown wire is the left rear speaker positive wire and the other is the parking light wire. If you get any of these wrong, you can toast your deck real quickly.

What does your ground wire read when the dash lights are on?

sparkie nailed it... triple check the brown & grey wires..... you'll find the problem
