Eclipse makes some great HUs, and most people on this forum will suggest them.

This Pioneer HU is one of my dream HUs, its got all the bells and whistles.

Nakamichi are your best bet for pure sound quality.

If you want all the bells and whistles, and money is really no option, go with the top of the line Kenwood

Eclipse > Pioneer > Kenmore (Driftwood)

Eclipse = Nakamichi and both are stellar cd players. I feel that the Eclipse offers a little more to the consumer in the terms of warranty and theft deterrent.

if money is no option the alpine f#1 status product line deserves some attention. if you're not sure what a lot of the features and processing are in this product but still want really good sound quality try an eclipse or one of the new kenwood excelons.  if you dont know what fine electronics can sound like, enjoy the difficulty of navigating illogical menu systems to manipulate "fluff" features, and want it to look cool, get yaself a pioneer

Nakamichi CD-700

I'd go with the Nak CD-700 Head Unit. It is very pricy($1200~$1600 new), but it delivers the cleanest signal that I have ever heard/seen.

I have to say I think the Nak and the Eclpise decks are probally your best bets. Denon makes a nice head unit as well. As for the pioneers having "illogical menu systems to manipulate "fluff" features" I am gonna disagree on that and say that I will take a pioneer over an alpine or Kenwood any day of the week. I think kenwood decks are generally sub par when compared to the other two and I personally dont like the sound of the Alpine decks but do think they have nice features. For a consumer level deck I like pioneer over just about anything else on the market.

you need to be a little more specific. Do you want a bunch of bells and whistles, or do you want a headunit thats pure audiophile. That will help determine which you should go with.

If you are looking for a great sounding head unit, I think you would have to put the Clarion DXZ9255 on the list.

Personally i have the alpine CDA-9835 and love it, if money is no object I would recommend high end Eclipse or Alpine F1 status, nakamichi and denon are also good.. but in my opinion ugly as hell

Well, everyone knows what i'm going to say. NAKAMICHI is the way to roll my friend. CD-700ii, CD-500, CD-400, CD 45z, THEY ARE ALL GREAT!!!! Just stay out of the MB series, too many malfunctions... But NAKAMICHI is great. Wonderful SQ, smooth, and god there isn't any other way of saying it but it sounds fantastic!!!! www.nakamichi.com or www.nakamichi-usa.com

Good luck
